A Writing Log - v. 4

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION: Hello there! I’m Tess, and you’re about to read an experiment of mine. The experiment is to see how long I can keep a decent log of my writing life, and to see whether that log has any entertainment value. It’s sort of like a captain’s log, but almost definitely less exciting. Hope you enjoy!

No word count.

Eh, it was a busy Friday. Had Mexican food, ate too much.

Not a terrible writing day, though I hoped for higher. Had to cut the session short to make it to a friend’s party. I thought I might try again when I got home, but I didn’t get home until pretty late.

Still, I’m in the fight scene now! So this was a relatively fun writing day. Gah, I love this feeling of knowing exactly what I need to do. It’s so clear and uncomplicated.

I ended up talking to a friend I hadn’t seen in a while at the party, and she mentioned that she wasn’t sure she’d be able to write a novel, which made me think a little bit about how hard it actually is to do. It is a lot of work. As we were talking, it dawned on me that I think this particular novel has, so far, been by far the easiest to write. My system is finally efficient--it only took me writing four whole novels to get here.

So, like, if you’re not sure whether you want to write a novel...I say don’t.

It’s summertime. I recommend you go outside, instead. Yes, they are kinda mutually exclusive.

This was a slow day to get going. I think I was just tired, and I needed a break. I did get to writing eventually, but not until basically 5pm. Fortunately for me, I’m still in the fight scene, so the writing’s been pretty fun and fast. Got much farther than I thought I would in the time I left for myself.

Mind you, haven’t gotten to my workout yet, and as I write this, it’s 8:40. I’m guessing it’s gonna be a pretty sad workout at this point. Nevertheless, I must make the attempt!

It’s what Logan would do.

Meanwhile, I just did some quick and dirty math. If I keep up this current pace, I should be able to finish this book in just under 3 months (assuming my projection for how long it’s going to be is correct, of course. I have been wrong before.) I think I’m okay with that pace. If this were the only thing I was doing, I would definitely want to be faster, but considering that I still have a full-time job and a life...3 months is okay. I can accept 3 months.

Yeah I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. Long story.

Pretty damn good day! I did have some issues getting started--residual tiredness from lack of sleep the night before, I think. But once I got rolling, things got better. Got myself into the right mood by filling out a character sheet for Alexei and Hugh, which was kind of a nice way to remind myself of where both of those characters are going & the various plans I have for them--which helped me narrow in on my overall focus again. All in all, not a bad day’s work.

A surprising issue I’m having: uploading these blog posts in a timely manner. I keep not remembering to do it until it’s really late and I’m already exhausted. I’m keeping up with the actual writing, it’s just the posting itself--which entails copying & pasting into squarespace, then editing to make sure all the extra odd spaces are there, then finding a picture, making sure all the notifications are properly set up, and setting it to go live at a particular time. And then one final check for extra spaces, of course, because sometimes they mysteriously reappear.

So...these are probably all going to be permanently 1 or 2...or 4 weeks late, but I’m hoping I’ll get into a better habit soon.

On a goal of 150 for the day (Wednesday, date night, again,) 273 is a full success. I almost want to go further...but I also want to get in a workout before I gorge myself on Indian food tonight, so...choices.

In other news, kitty so sleepy this week! I think it’s because it got a bit chillier again, which I personally love. Low 60s temps are my fave.
